The U.S. men’s basketball team will face a familiar opponent on Wednesday in its second game in Group C play at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
South Sudan gave the U.S. a scare in a scrimmage game July 20, ahead of the Olympics. A layup by LeBron James with eight seconds remaining — and a blocked shot by Anthony Edwards with three seconds left — helped give the USA a 101-100 win over South Sudan after the Americans overcame a 14-point deficit.

The U.S. is going for its fifth straight gold medal finish at the Olympics, while South Sudan’s men’s basketball team is the first-ever team to represent the country. Former Philadelphia 76er Carlik Jones recorded a triple-double in South Sudan’s narrow loss, scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
